The RARE Way

Teaching with patience, explaining with clarity and helping every learner grow with confidence.

What Is The RARE Way?

The RARE Way is the teaching philosophy that has guided RARE Tutorial since 1988. It is not a fixed method or a secret formula — it is a way of thinking about education.

It began in 1988 when our founder, Mrs. Ruma Mukhopadhyay, noticed that children learned best when they understood their lessons instead of simply memorising them. She also discovered that children who enjoyed reading became more confident learners. Those simple observations became the foundation of RARE.

Over the years, classrooms, technology and examinations have changed. Our philosophy has remained the same.

We believe that children learn best when they understand what they are learning, feel comfortable asking questions and are encouraged to think for themselves. Although education continues to change, these beliefs continue to guide every class we teach.

Our Principles

The Principles We Never Compromise

At RARE, every decision we make is guided by a few simple principles. These principles have grown from decades of teaching, learning and reflecting. They shape the way we teach, the way we support students and the way we work with parents. They are not temporary ideas. They are the foundation of RARE.

Understanding Comes Before Memorising

We believe students should first understand a lesson before trying to remember it. Understanding builds confidence. Confidence makes learning enjoyable. When students know why an answer is correct, they learn more deeply and remember it for longer.

Every Child Can Learn

Every child learns in a different way and at a different pace. Some need more examples. Some need more encouragement. We never stop believing that a student can improve when given patient guidance and the right support.

Questions Are Welcome

Learning begins with curiosity. We encourage students to ask questions, share their doubts and think beyond the textbook. A question is never an interruption. It is often the beginning of real understanding.

Reading Builds Independent Learners

Reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child. Books help students improve their vocabulary, strengthen their thinking and become confident learners who continue learning long after the lesson is over.

Practice Builds Confidence

Understanding is only the beginning. Regular practice helps students apply what they have learnt, improve steadily and gain confidence. We believe practice should help students grow, not make them afraid of making mistakes.

Technology Supports Teaching

We welcome technology because it makes learning more flexible and accessible. But technology is a tool, not a teacher. Thoughtful teaching, personal guidance and human connection will always remain at the heart of education.

Learning Should Be Joyful

Children learn best when they enjoy learning. We want our classrooms to be places where students feel comfortable, respected and encouraged to discover new ideas with confidence.

These principles have guided RARE since 1988. They continue to guide every lesson we teach, every student we support and every decision we make. They are the promises we make to ourselves — and to every family that places its trust in us.

How We Teach

Learning That Builds Understanding and Confidence

At RARE, teaching is more than explaining a lesson. We guide students step by step so that they understand, practise and grow in confidence. Every class follows the same simple purpose — to help students become independent learners.

Step 1

We Begin with the Student

Every learner is different. Some understand quickly. Some need more time. Some enjoy reading. Others learn best by asking questions. Before we teach a lesson, we try to understand the learner. This helps us explain ideas in the way that suits the student best.

We Teach for Understanding

We never want students to memorise answers without knowing why they are correct. We explain patiently, using simple language, examples and comparisons whenever needed. When understanding comes first, confidence grows naturally.

We Make Learning Simple

Simple does not mean easy. Simple means clear. Our aim is to make even difficult ideas easier to understand without losing their depth. When a student says, “Now I understand,” we know real learning has taken place.

We Encourage Questions

Questions are always welcome at RARE. Sometimes a question takes us beyond the textbook. We see that as an opportunity to learn more. Curiosity helps students become independent thinkers.

We Build Confidence Through Practice

Understanding is only the beginning. Students strengthen their learning through regular writing, discussions, revision and practice. Practice helps students become more confident with every lesson.

We Teach Beyond the Examination

Good examination results matter. But we also want students to become confident readers, careful thinkers, clear communicators and lifelong learners. The habits they build today will help them long after school is over.

Learning is not a race. It is a journey. At RARE, we walk beside every student with patience, encouragement and a belief that every child can learn.

The RARE Experience

More Than Classes. A Journey of Learning.

At RARE, we believe that education is not only about lessons. It is also about experiences. We want every student and every parent to feel that joining RARE was one of the best educational decisions they made. That experience begins long before the first lesson.

We Begin by Listening

Every student is different. Every family has different hopes, concerns and goals. Before recommending a course or a class, we take the time to understand the learner. Good guidance begins with careful listening.

Every Student Matters

At RARE, students are more than names on an attendance register. We celebrate their progress, encourage them when they struggle and help them build confidence one step at a time. Every learner deserves to feel known, supported and valued.

A Classroom Where Questions Are Welcome

Learning becomes easier when students are not afraid to ask questions. We encourage discussion, curiosity and honest conversation because every question is another opportunity to understand.

Parents Are Our Partners

We believe that students benefit most when teachers and parents work together. We value open communication and welcome conversations about a child's progress, strengths and challenges.

Learning Never Stops

Learning does not end when a class is over. We encourage students to continue reading, observing, thinking and asking questions in everyday life. As RARE grows, we also hope to support learning through articles, educational videos and study resources beyond the classroom.

Honest Guidance

Parents place their trust in us, and we value that trust deeply. If we believe we can genuinely help a student, we will give our very best. If another teacher or programme is better suited to a student's needs, we will say so honestly. Helping a learner is always more important than increasing admissions.

What Students Take Home

  • Greater confidence
  • Stronger understanding
  • Better study habits
  • Clearer thinking
  • The courage to ask questions
  • A love for learning

“Today, I understand something that I didn't understand yesterday.” If every student can say this after each class, we believe confidence, achievement and success will naturally follow.

Our Promise to Parents

The Trust You Place in Us Matters

Choosing a teacher is an important decision. When you choose RARE, you are placing your trust in us. We do not take that trust lightly. Every child is unique, and every family has different hopes and expectations. We promise to treat every learner with patience, honesty and genuine care.

We promise to teach with patience.

We understand that every child learns differently. We will explain, encourage and support every learner with care.

We promise to build understanding before memorising.

We want students to know why an answer is correct, not simply remember it. Strong understanding builds lasting confidence.

We promise to welcome questions.

No child should be afraid to ask, “Can you explain that again?” Questions help learning grow.

We promise to communicate honestly.

Parents deserve clear and honest guidance about their child's learning. We believe trust grows through open communication.

We promise to keep learning.

Education continues to change. We will continue improving our teaching while remaining true to the values on which RARE was founded.

We promise to put the learner first.

If we believe we can genuinely help your child, we will give our very best. If we believe another teacher or another programme would serve your child better, we will tell you honestly and help you find the right direction. Helping a learner is always more important than increasing admissions.

Our goal has never been to become the biggest educational institution.

Our goal is to become one of the most trusted.

If students leave RARE with greater confidence, stronger understanding and a lifelong love of learning, we will know that we have fulfilled our purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to understand The RARE Way. We look forward to being a part of your child's learning journey.

With warm wishes,

Mrs. Ruma Mukhopadhyay, Founder

Shiladitya Mukhopadhyay, Director

We teach with patience, explain with clarity, encourage curiosity and help every learner grow in knowledge, confidence and character.

Experience The RARE Way

The best way to understand our approach is to experience it. We would be happy to discuss your child's learning needs and help you choose the right programme.
