Since 1988, RARE Tutorial has been helping students build confidence, strengthen their knowledge and enjoy learning in a caring and supportive environment. For us, teaching is not just about examinations. It is about helping every student discover their potential and become a confident learner.
Our Story
A Journey That Began with a Love for Teaching
Every great journey begins with a small step. In 1988, Mrs. Ruma Mukhopadhyay was helping her own two school-going children with their studies. As she taught them every day, she began to notice something important. Children did not learn best by simply memorising lessons. They learned best when they truly understood what they were reading and when they enjoyed the process of learning.
She especially discovered that reading good English books helped children improve not only their language but also their thinking, confidence and imagination. This simple but powerful idea became the foundation of her teaching.
Soon, a few neighbourhood children joined her lessons. She welcomed them into her home and taught them with the same care and patience that she gave her own children. At first, she taught them free of charge because her only goal was to help them learn.
As parents saw their children's confidence and performance improve, they began telling others. One recommendation led to another, and what started with a handful of children slowly grew into RARE Tutorial.
Over the years, the classrooms became larger, more students joined, and new subjects were introduced. Yet one thing has never changed — the belief that every child deserves patient guidance, personal attention and the joy of learning.
In 2000, the next generation joined the journey when Shiladitya Mukhopadhyay became part of RARE, helping to carry forward the same values while introducing new ideas and modern teaching methods.
When the world changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, RARE adapted once again. What had always been an offline classroom successfully moved online through digital learning. Today, RARE continues to guide students through offline, online and hybrid classes, while staying true to the principles on which it was founded.
More than three decades later, the story that began with two children at home continues in every classroom, every lesson and every student who becomes a part of the RARE family.

Mrs. Ruma Mukhopadhyay founded RARE Tutorial in 1988, starting with her own children before welcoming neighbourhood learners into her patient, understanding-first approach to teaching.
Shiladitya Mukhopadhyay joined RARE in 2000, helping expand its programmes into Science, Social Science and Spoken English while carrying forward the same founding philosophy.
